ELTEC is proud to be one of the leading providers of pedestrian warning signs in school zones. Since 1968, we have provided programmable time clocks linked to the flashing LED traffic signal beacons. A warning system that is required by law in many school zones, it can be configured with either one or two of the flashing LEDs per pole. These systems can be set to an automated schedule as far out as an entire school year. There is also an option of adding an extra light, known as a “tattle-tail” which lets the authorities confirm that the pedestrian warning sign is working correctly.

Even when solar powered, the lights are never dull – they have been programmed to remain at top power even on overcast days. One of our pedestrian traffic control products, Rectangular Rapid Flashing Beacons (RRFBs) act as a pedestrian warning sign and are designed to be used in addition to uncontrolled pedestrian and school crosswalk signs. The Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) has granted interim approval for the optional use of RRFBs. The use of this system has been proven to increase the compliance of motorists when it comes to yielding at crosswalks. This is due to the pattern, brightness, and intensity of the beacons – which is similar to those used in emergency response units. Our RRFB pedestrian crossing system even has a remote monitoring option available.
Pedestrians can often face conditions that are hazardous on the roads. This is why ELTECs HAWK (high-intensity activated crosswalk) is an activated crosswalk signal that acts as a pedestrian warning sign to assist when crossing a street or highway. Known in the traffic industry as a “hybrid pedestrian crossing,” these systems offer added pedestrian traffic control, designed to increase the safety of unmonitored crosswalks. It has an unusual triangular design with the hybrid beacon face having two red LED lights on top and one amber LED light below. These lights will remain dark until activated by a pedestrian. When initiated either by the push button, the camera or by microwave detection, the HAWK flashes in a specific beacon sequence requiring motorists to stop. This acts as a pedestrian warning sign – making sure those looking to cross the road are kept safe.
